Abstract

It is observed from the available data, that foreign portfolio investments has increased over the years which is boosted by the potentials the Nigerian economy possesses and has boosted the financial strength of financial institutions in Nigeria, but many entrepreneurs have found it very tedious to access credit to support their businesses in the Nigeria’s energy subsector which has left the sector is a stagnant state. This identified problem gave rise to the general objective which is to examine the relationship between foreign direct investment and entrepreneurship development in Nigeria’s energy subsector while the specific objective is to establish the correlation between foreign portfolio investments (FPI) and entrepreneurial investments in Nigeria’s energy sub-sector. A correlation method was used to analyze the secondary data (2003 – 2017) collected from the World Bank databank. Findings showed that foreign portfolio investments (FPI) have enhanced activities of entrepreneurs in the Nigeria’s energy subsector thereby impacting positively on the sub-sector.
