The study examined safety management and job performance of employees in selected hospitals in Ondo State, Nigeria. The objective of the study is to determine the effect of safety management on the job performance of hospital employees. Three hospitals that could be regarded as referral centers in the state were selected for the study. Primary data was adopted for the study and one hundred and five (105) questionnaires were administered across the three hospitals on the basis of stratified sampling technique. Regression analysis was undertaken to ascertain the degree of relationship among the variables of the study. Findings from the study revealed a positive relationship between education and training and employees’ performance. Also, findings showed that risk assessment/mitigation has significant relationship with employees’ job performance. However, findings from the study could not establish a relationship between employees’ participation in safety decisions and their job performance. The study concluded that safety management has an effect in general on health system and hospital employees’ performance and this invariably boosts employee’s morale and motivation to discharge their responsibility accordingly. The study recommended that health workers should be exposed to training on health hazards through workshops and seminars so as to increase their performance, efforts should be made by the management to sensitize the workers on how to identify health risks and how to mitigate them, and management should integrate the employees in the organization’s safety decision process.
